Tuesday, butcher birds and canoeing

Tuesday 26th January

Yesterday saw these butcher birds in the garden. They are called butcher birds because they stash bits of meat in branches of trees to eat later, they have a very pretty vocal to listen to. The photo features a adult and a juvenile that was begging to be fed.

Dad I'm hungry food, need food, now food.....

Now where has that dratted son of mine got to???

A hibiscus flower looking stunning in my mums garden.

Wow, never saw a butcher bird !The hibiscus makes me homesick for the Florida Keys, we had them there. Too cold here in Virginia, unless you winter them in the house...

Hi Kas,
I love hibiscus plants. The first plant I ever planted was when I was ten years old. I planted a cutting of a red hibiscus plant. I grew!!!! Before I left that house I had 22 hibiscus growing as a hedge beside the long side of the property.
Be glad when your are home, Fern

I have never heard of a butcher bird either! The photos are terrific! I'm going to have to send your blog to my son (he is into birds and wildlife, in fact, he works at a nature preserve). He's going to be really interested in your birds!
