Oh dear Squeak mouse is looking very sad and hmmm chewed!!!
Hello there all,
In my quest for a new place to call home I am pondering whether I really want to build or just find a place on a few acres that is comfortably livable??
Someone told me today that it will sort itself out, I have put it to the universe and now I need to not worry about the how, well how about the what where does that fit in????
This was Sherri and Smudge yesterday.

I would think that would depend on your budget, whether you have to hire a general contractor or you (or someone in your family) can act as general contractor. If building, I would be prepared for a lot of delays and hassles, definitely add on 20 to 30% above what you think you'll spend. One of my co-workers and her hubby built their home--they were their own general contractors. It saved them huge amounts of money (as opposed to hiring a general contractor), but they knew what they were doing.
The flip side is that you could sit down with an architect or draftsperson and design what you want.
If you find a suitable house, of course you have to take into consideration any renos. And still budget 20 to 30% more than you expect to spend.
I would think both options have their pluses and minuses, it's just what you are prepared to go through, how much you want to learn (about the building process), and so on.
Not an easy choice, unless you win a lottery. LOL.
Yep, it probably will sort itself out, but something that is already build might find you when you are not really looking.
That's a tough decision that is based on finances and time and what's available. Make a list of all the pros and cons to see which has more pros. Maybe checking with a builder for average prices, prices for land, time to complete, etc. Whatever feels best to you will become evident and if anything makes you nervous, follow your intuition.
Cute photo of Sherri and Smudge!
